The Snazzy Jazzies

Kristin’s picture book with Notable Kids Publishing.

Harvey just wants to play his trumpet, yet he reluctantly goes with his Mom to the ‘boring’ Farmer’s Market. Harnessing his imagination, Harvey shows how to find musical fun anywhere in this bebopping book. “The Snazzy Jazzies” introduces jazzy cats to musical instruments and their families (brass, woodwinds, percussion, strings, and keys) and is packed with jazzy wordplay, lyrical alliterations, and vibrant illustrations.

Reviews

“Young music lovers and curious kids will have fun with this book. Louis Armstrong said, “What we play is life.” That fits Harvey perfectly because he discovers music and inspiration in something as ordinary as a trip to the farmer’s market.” *Jennifer Senick for Readers’ Favorite

“This is an up-beat read, which opens up the world of jazz to young listeners/readers… The illustrations pop with color, letting the positive atmosphere come from every page which the fantastical elements play along to add pizzazz. It is clear, however, that the fruits are fantasy, so it stays with both feet in reality.” *Bookworm for Kids Review

“The writing leans into Harvey’s passion for jazz, integrating terms including “cat,” “lick,” and “shed.” All are covered in the glossary, along with the referenced musicians and songs.” *Foreword Reviews

“The colourful illustrations and characters make the book really engaging and bring the story to life. ” *Beanie the Bookworm

Breathe Big, Little Bear

Kristin’s debut early reader chapter book will be published by AM Ink.

Billie is a talented young bear who loves words, swimming, drawing, and dance.  She likes everything – from neat printing to the order of her pencil crayons and the dance steps in her routines – to be perfect.  But what happens when Billie’s world becomes unbearably imperfect?   Her word journal, goggles, swim towel, pencil crayons, coloring book, dance bag and routine, all get wrecked leaving Billie a wreck too.  In this touching and relatable story about worries and perfectionism, featuring lots of different species of bears (polar, grizzly, sun, sloth, panda, brown, and black bears), Billie works through challenges by being mindful.  She takes big bear breaths, stays in the moment and shows kindness, forgiveness, and patience to herself and others.  Billie recognizes how even though a lot went wrong, it also went right too.  A replacement journal, loaner goggles, re-sharpened pencil crayons, a repair job on the coloring book, and a new dance friend are found.  Billie learns about the power of mindfulness in this beary tender tale.
